Tae Kwon Do Philosophy PDF Print E-mail

Philosophy, to most people, means how we think about things, our values and standards, our beliefs, our basic thoughts about right and wrong. The philosophy of Tae Kwon Do reflects the universal values of high integrity and good moral character. At Discovery Tae Kwon Do, our martial arts philosophy is based upon incorporating those values into our everyday lives.

The basis of all martial arts is self-defense. To be confident in your ability to defend yourself, you must develop appropriate martial arts skills and strong technique. To do this requires proper instruction and a commitment to training. Good, strong, effective technique comes from long hours of practice and dedication. The dedication required to achieve such technique is a character-building experience.

True martial arts masters have always stressed the balance of mind and body. To develop only the physical, without the mental understanding, creates an unbalanced martial artist with a very limited grasp of the true meaning of the martial arts. The concept of mental and physical balance is rooted in Eastern philosophies dating back 2,000 years. The ultimate goal of training is to acquire the skills to defend oneself in all situations and the knowledge and understanding to attain a healthy and balanced everyday life.
